On Oct. 8 at 6:45 p.m. a call came to Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk concerning an overdue hunter. Ken Moosman went hunting on Oct. 6 and was not heard from since. A search was called.

Emery County Search and Rescue located the hunter's truck below Fly Canyon in upper Joe's Valley. That night a team was assembled at the Fly Canyon Trailhead consisting of the search and rescue members and personnel from the Emery County Sheriff's Office. The Department of Public Safety's helicopter flew the area during the night using infrared and on Tuesday with a spotter from the search and rescue team.

On Oct. 9 the searchers began a ground search for the hunter. Members from the Sanpete Search and Rescue also assisted. Sanpete searchers began at the Skyline Drive and worked their way down the canyons. Emery County began at Fly Canyon and worked their way up the canyon. The scene of the accident was discovered in early afternoon. The hunter's rifle was located on the horse trail. The horse was located a short distance from the gun tangled in some brush. After a search of the area Ken Moosman from Clawson was located not far from the horse. It appears he was the victim of an accident involving his horse. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident and it appears he died instantly.

Sheriff Funk said, "I want to personally thank all of the volunteers that came to help on this search. They were there the entire night and throughout the next day. They did a fantastic job. They brought their horses and mules to help search the area. They left their employment and took vacation time. We appreciate their willingness to help out and their dedication to the safety and welfare of those in our community."
