The Bureau of Land Management Wyoming State Office and the Western Area Power Administration are hosting a series of 13 public meetings/hearings to provide information and to gather public input on the TransWest Express Transmission Project Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

Each meeting will provide information displays about the EIS process and schedule, project location maps, impacts to resources and potential land use plan amendments. BLM and Western managers and resource specialists will be available at the meetings to answer questions. Attendees will have the opportunity to have their verbal comments transcribed by a court reporter for the public record. The public has until Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 to review and comment on the DEIS.

The BLM and Western are co-lead federal agencies for the National Environmental Policy Act process for this project, and are working with cooperating agencies in Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Nevada. Members of the public, government agencies, and Tribes are encouraged to comment on the Draft EIS during the 90-day public comment period. All meetings will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. TransWest Express DEIS Public Meeting will be held on Aug. 29 in Price, Carbon County Event Center, 310 S. Fairgrounds Rd.

TransWest Express, LLC and Western propose to construct, own, and operate the TransWest Express Transmission Project which would result in construction of approximately 725 miles of extra-high voltage, direct current transmission lines extending from south-central Wyoming to southern Nevada. The project is intended to provide the transmission infrastructure and capacity necessary to deliver up to approximately 3,000 megawatts of electric power from renewable energy resources in south-central Wyoming to markets in the Desert Southwest.

The Draft EIS is available for downloading from the BLM's project website at: www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/documents/hdd/transwest.html and Western's project website at: http://go.usa.gov/YCeC.

Comments may be submitted to the BLM and Western during the public meetings, by email: TransWest_WYMail@blm.gov, or by mail to: TransWest Express Project, Bureau of Land Management, P.O. Box 20678, Cheyenne, WY 82003.
