Delta High School with their myriad of wrestlers returned to the top of 2-A wrestling as they won the 2017 crown last Saturday night at UVU as they scored 283 team points. Emery, with less than 20 participants this season, finished tenth overall with 65 points.

Emery had two wrestlers advance to the championship match but each of them lost to a Rabbit. Senior Ty Mecham, seeded first in his half of the 285-pound bracket, won his first three matches including one over last season's state champion at 285 pounds, before losing the title.

Junior Newt Oveson was seeded fifth in his 160-pound bracket but wrestled well through the tournament as he also won his first three matches, most by upset according to the seeding, and then lost the title in the final match against another Rabbit by the score of 5-2.

Also placing in the tournament were McKay Meccariello at 132 pounds and Aaron Reeve, also at 285 pounds. Both wrestlers went 3-2 in the meet and each finished sixth in their weight classes.

Also advancing to state and winning a match were Korby Christiansen at 106 pounds who went 2-2, Chase Christiansen at 113 pounds who went 1-2, Gus Dalton at 138 pounds went 2-2 over the two days. Also wrestling were Trace Funk at 120 pounds, Zachary World at 126 pounds and Klint Allred at 132 pounds.
